Companion Caregiver Placement in NYC

Compassionate, non-medical support at home.

We identify, screen and introduce companion caregivers to families across New York — non-medical support for a family member who needs company, help with daily routines and a dependable presence at home.

What does a companion caregiver do?

A companion caregiver provides non-medical support and company to a family member at home. The role usually covers company and conversation, help with daily routines, light meal preparation, accompanying someone to appointments or on errands, medication reminders (not administration), and simply being a steady, familiar presence.

This is deliberately not medical or nursing care. A companion caregiver introduced by Seva Elite Staffing does not perform clinical tasks, manage medical equipment or make treatment decisions. Families whose family member needs clinical or medical support should arrange that separately, through a licensed provider.

Where the role blends into household support — light cleaning, laundry for the person being supported — it is worth agreeing that scope up front, and being clear about the line between companion support and anything clinical.

Who is a companion caregiver right for?

Families most often bring in a companion caregiver for an older family member who is otherwise independent but would benefit from company and a hand with daily routines, for someone recovering from an event who does not need clinical care but should not be alone, or simply for a family that wants consistent, familiar support at home rather than a rotating roster.

It is worth being candid at the outset about what support is genuinely needed. A companion caregiver is the right fit for company, routine and non-medical help. If the honest answer involves medication administration, wound care, mobility transfers requiring training, or any clinical judgement, that need is better served by a licensed home health provider, and we will say so rather than attempt an introduction that does not fit.

What should you look for in a companion caregiver?

Compassion and patience, dependability, and respect for privacy. Of the three, dependability is the one families underestimate before they have lived with an inconsistent arrangement — the value of a companion caregiver comes largely from familiarity and routine, and that is undone by frequent changes in who shows up.

Beyond temperament, look for someone comfortable with the specific realities of the role: the person's daily rhythm, any mobility considerations, dietary needs, and how much independence the family member wants to keep. A caregiver who defers naturally to the person's own preferences, rather than taking over, tends to work out best.

Ask previous families how the caregiver handled a day that did not go to plan — a missed appointment, a difficult mood, a sudden change of routine. The answer says more than a list of duties.

How does this differ from home health or medical care?

Home health and medical care involve clinical tasks performed under a license — wound care, medication administration, therapy, monitoring a medical condition. A companion caregiver's role is non-medical: company, routine, and practical daily support.

Seva Elite Staffing does not provide medical, nursing, healthcare or home health services, and the companion caregivers we introduce are not placed to perform them. If a family's needs turn out to be more clinical than expected once the search begins, we will say so plainly rather than continue an introduction that is not the right fit, and point toward the kind of licensed provider that is.

How does Seva Elite Staffing screen companion caregivers?

Before any introduction, Seva Elite Staffing verifies identity, contacts previous families or employers for references, reviews relevant experience and interviews the candidate personally. For this role, references carry particular weight, because the work happens in someone's home with a family member who may be vulnerable, and a caregiver's patience and reliability show up most clearly in how previous families describe the day-to-day reality.

You hire your chosen caregiver directly and become their employer of record, responsible for wages, taxes, insurance and supervision. Seva Elite Staffing does not employ, pay or supervise the professionals it places.

We place companion caregivers with families across New York City, Westchester County, Long Island and the Hamptons, including the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Tribeca, the West Village, SoHo, Chelsea, Upper Manhattan and Brooklyn Heights. You can also see the full range of household roles we place or tell us what your household needs.

Companion caregivers introduced by Seva Elite Staffing provide non-medical companion and household support only. Seva Elite Staffing does not provide medical, nursing, healthcare, or home health services, and the professionals we introduce are not placed to provide them. Families needing licensed clinical or home health care should arrange that separately through a licensed provider.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions About Private Caregivers

No. A companion caregiver provides non-medical company and support with daily routines. Seva Elite Staffing does not provide medical, nursing, healthcare or home health services, and the caregivers we introduce are not placed to perform clinical tasks. Families whose needs are clinical should arrange licensed home health support separately.

A companion caregiver can provide medication reminders, but does not administer medication or perform clinical tasks. If a family's needs include medication administration or other clinical care, that falls outside a companion caregiver's non-medical role, and we will say so directly rather than attempt an introduction that does not fit.

Seva Elite Staffing places companion caregivers on full-time, part-time and flexible schedules, including live-in and live-out arrangements. Many families start with a few hours several days a week and adjust once they see how it fits. Tell us the pattern you would like to try and we will look for caregivers whose availability genuinely matches it.

Yes. Seva Elite Staffing identifies, screens and introduces candidates, and you select and hire the caregiver you choose. Once hired, you are the employer of record and responsible for wages, taxes, insurance and supervision. Seva Elite Staffing does not employ, pay or supervise the professionals it places.

We would rather tell you plainly than continue an introduction that is not the right fit. If a family's needs are clinical — wound care, medication administration, or similar — that calls for a licensed home health provider rather than a companion caregiver, and we will say so directly so you can pursue the right kind of support.
